New zealand

New Zealand is a gorgeous island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Known for its beautiful geography, diverse indigenous cultures and lively democracy. As a member to the British Commonwealth of nations, New Zealand certainly is unique because it has limited history and ethnic identity.

New Zealand has been a part of the Commonwealth since as late as 1931, but its British colonisation dates back to signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. This treaty set out the nature of Māori land ownership and a formal process by which Britain could establish governance over New Zealand, both crucial aspects in Aotearoa's history. The country achieved complete independence incrementally, beginning with the Statute of Westminster in 1947 that permitted it to pass its own laws. New Zealand only fully removed its constitutional ties to the UK in 1986, with the Constitution Act confirming it a truly sovereign nation.

Its wonderful culture history and natural beauty, combined with its path towards independence set it apart as a compelling member within the commonwealth.
